County Map with Cities

Choose a state, then a county. Every Census place whose centre lies in that county is pinned on the map, sized by population, and listed with the county seat marked.

How to use it

  1. Choose a state, then a county from the list.
  2. The places inside the county appear on the map as circles sized by population, with the county centre and its neighbours' centres marked.
  3. Read the table, largest place first, and download it as CSV.
  4. Open the county page for the boundary map and the full set of figures.

How it works

Places come from the Census 2025 Gazetteer, incorporated places and census designated places, each assigned to the county its internal point falls in by a point-in-polygon test against the Census 2025 county boundaries at build time. A city that straddles two counties is therefore listed once, under the county that holds its centre. Population is the Vintage 2025 estimate; CDPs have none.

The county outline itself is not drawn on this map. This site stores its county shapes in a projected pixel frame for the fast server-rendered maps on the county pages, not in longitude and latitude, so the linked county page is where the boundary is. The county centre and the centres of its neighbouring counties are marked so the extent is clear.

Questions

What cities are in a county?
Pick the state and county and every incorporated city, town, village or borough with its centre in the county is listed, plus census designated places. The county seat is named above the table.
Why is a city missing from its county?
A city that crosses a county line is listed under the county holding its centre point, and only there. Some communities are neither incorporated nor census designated and so are not Census places at all.
Why is there no county boundary on the map?
The site's boundary files are drawn in a projected frame for the county pages and cannot be laid over a web map without a rebuild. The county page linked from the result shows the boundary.
