Questions

Are these tools free?
Yes. Every tool on this page is free to use with no account, no API key and no download. The site is supported by display advertising.
Do the tools work outside the United States?
Most do. Tools that draw on US Census data, such as county and ZIP code lookups, are marked "US only". Distance, coordinate, elevation, time zone and map-making tools work worldwide.
Where does the location data come from?
Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap, built from OpenStreetMap. Place search and reverse geocoding use the open Photon and Nominatim services. Routing uses the public Valhalla server. US county and state boundaries and figures come from the Census Bureau, the same data as every county page on this site. Elevation comes from the Copernicus 90-metre model via Open-Meteo.
Is my location stored?
No. Your position is read by your browser only when you press a "Use my location" button, is sent to the open geocoding service needed to answer the question, and is never sent to or stored by this site. Shareable links store the map state in the link itself.
