Find the Nearest National Park

Enter a starting point and the parks are listed nearest first, with the distance and direction to each.

How to use it

  1. Tap "Use my location", type a place, or click the map.
  2. The 63 parks are listed nearest first with the straight-line distance and compass direction; the five nearest are highlighted on the map.
  3. Follow the nps.gov link for hours, roads and conditions, and download the ranked list as CSV.

How it works

The 63 areas Congress has designated "National Park" are a fixed list kept with this site, each with the coordinates of its main visitor centre or its centre point and its four-letter National Park Service code. Distances are great-circle, computed in your browser from your position or the geocoded place.

Straight-line distance is not driving distance. Big parks have entrances far from the point used here, some are reachable only by boat or plane, and the road route to a park across a mountain range can be twice the straight line. National monuments, seashores, recreation areas and other NPS units are not on this list.

Questions

What is the closest national park to me?
Allow location access or type your town, and the nearest of the 63 national parks is named with its distance and direction, followed by the rest in order.
Why is the drive so much longer than the distance shown?
The distance is a straight line to one point in the park. Roads bend around mountains and lakes, and park entrances can be on the far side from you. Use the nps.gov link for directions.
Why is a park I know missing?
Only units with the "National Park" designation are listed: 63 as of 2025. National monuments, historical parks, seashores and recreation areas are separate designations, however park-like they are.
