GPX Viewer
Tracks, routes and waypoints are drawn together with the elevation chart under them. Convert to GeoJSON or KML if you need another format.
How to use it
- Drop a .gpx file on the box, or choose one.
- Read the distance, elevation gain and loss, and the lowest and highest points.
- Follow the elevation profile under the map; click a track or waypoint for its details.
- Convert the file to GeoJSON or KML.
How it works
Waypoints, tracks (with their segments) and routes are read from GPX 1.0 and 1.1 files. Distance is the great-circle sum between consecutive track points. Elevation gain and loss come from the ele values in the file with a 3 metre threshold, so GPS jitter does not inflate the climb; the figure will differ from what Strava or Garmin show because each service smooths differently.
The elevation profile is drawn for the first track that carries elevations. Times, heart rate and other extensions are not charted.
Questions
- Why is my elevation gain different from Strava?
- Every service smooths elevation its own way, and some replace GPS altitude with a terrain model. This viewer uses the raw ele values in the file with a small threshold, which is honest but usually a bit different.
- The file has no elevation profile.
- The track points carry no ele values. Many phone apps export position only. The distance and map still work.
- Can I merge or edit tracks here?
- No. This is a viewer and converter. It does not edit the track.
