Map with Legend Maker

Every marker style and fill colour you use becomes a legend row with a caption you can edit. Export the finished map as a PNG or SVG.

How to use it

  1. Choose the base map: world countries or US states.
  2. Add groups. A fill group colours the regions you click; a marker group drops a shaped marker where you click. Give each group a colour and a caption.
  3. Pick the active group and click the map. Presets fill NATO, EU or G20 members in one go.
  4. Choose the legend corner and title, then download the map as SVG or PNG.

How it works

The base maps are inline SVG: countries from Natural Earth 1:110m and US states from the 2025 Census cartographic boundary file, both public domain. Fills, markers and the legend are drawn into the same SVG, so the export is exactly what you see, at any size.

The legend lists every group that has a caption and at least one region or marker. The map state is kept in the URL, so the address bar is a saved copy you can share.

Questions

Can I use my own base map or a satellite image?
No. This tool draws on its own vector base maps so the export is clean and free to reuse. For markers on a street map, use the Pin Drop Map.
Why is a small country missing from a preset?
The world map is generalised to 1:110m, which drops the smallest territories such as Malta. The status line tells you how many members were found.
Is the PNG free to publish?
Yes. The boundaries are public domain and the drawing is yours.
